Father, son nabbed for masterminding liquor smuggling

KUANTAN: The Region 3 Marine Operations Force (MOF) based in Kuantan have detained a father and son suspected of being liquor smuggling masterminds.
Its commander, ACP Norzaid Muhammad Said said the first suspect, aged 32, was picked up at a mini market here at 11.50am while his 59-year-old father was detained at a warehouse in Jalan Haji Ahmad here two hours later.
"A total of 618 cans and 48 bottles of alcohol estimated to be worth RM4,612.50 were found in a store located behind the mini market in the first raid.
"Upon questioning, the first suspect led the MOF personnel to the warehouse where 7,128 cans of alcohol valued at RM63,936 were discovered," he told a press conference at the Region 3 MOF Headquarters jetty here today.
Norzaid said the initial investigation revealed that the alcohol was meant for distribution in the district.
The suspects were being detained to facilitate investigation under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967. — Bernama
