Man gets six years, whipping for snatching gold necklace

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court today sentenced a scrap yard worker to six years jail and two strokes of the cane after finding him guilty of robbing a housewife of her gold necklace.
Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah passed the sentence on P.Mathiselvan, 48, saying the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt.
The court also ordered the man to serve the jail sentence from the date of arrest on Nov 3, 2017.
The father of three was found guilty of committing the offence on V.Nyanyasundry, 53, at Sentul market, Jalan Sentul Pasar here at 10.45 am on Oct 29, 2017.
The charge, under Section 392 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 14 years' jail and liable to fine or whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Aris Kamaluddin prosecuted while Mathiselvan was unrepresented. — Bernama
