Rulers listen to briefings on country's defence and security

KUALA LUMPUR: The 249th Council of Rulers meeting yesterday was given a briefing on national defence by Armed Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin and on security by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
Keeper of the Rulers' Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad in a statement said the second day meeting also highlighted the appointment of the superior court judges and Islamic-related matters such as the appointment of members of the National Fatwa Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), the Advisory Council for the Coordination of Islamic Education (LEPAI) and Universiti Islam Malaysia.
Syed Danial said the meeting also discussed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong scholarships that was established in 2006 and the Conference of Rulers' scholarship that was first introduced on Aug 31, 1949.
Earlier today the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V attended the meeting nce of Rulers and on arrival he was greeted by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The meeting, which began yesterday, was chaired by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah. — Bernama
