Two workers die in operations at construction site

KUALA LUMPUR: Work at the construction site at Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman, here was stopped immediately after an incident that killed two workers early on Thursday morning.
The Human Resource Ministry said in a statement last night that six workers were carrying out concrete works on the 15th floor of the building concerned when the concrete slabs and formwork structure collapsed in the 2am incident.
One of the victims died on the spot while the other was confirmed dead at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital," the statement said.
Subsequently, a team of officials from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) went to the scene to conduct an investigation and issue an immediate stop-work notice.
As of 5pm yesterday, the employers had not made any report on the accident.
Legal action would be taken against those responsible if it was found that they had violated the Occupational Safety and Health Act (1994) and Factories and Machinery Act (1967).
"It is the responsibility of the employers and the workers to ensure safety and health at the work place," the statement said. — Bernama
