Police cripple drug syndicate, nab five in JB

JOHOR BARU: Police believe they have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate here with the arrests of five men and seizure of various drugs worth RM126,000 last Saturday.
Johor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Lukas Aket said the suspects, aged between 22 and 42, were picked up in two raids around Kempas here from 2pm to 7pm.
"The seized drugs comprised 7.1kg of what believed to be heroin, 56g of suspected ganja (marijuana) and 400g of what believed to be syabu (methamphetamine)," he told reporters here today.
Lukas said police had impounded a Perodua Myvi, Volkswagen Polo, Honda CR-Z cars and a Yamaha LC motorcycle, as well as seized 11 mobile phones and RM2,800 in cash.
All the drugs were believed to be meant for local distribution, he said.
Lukas said all the suspects had criminal records including drug-related offences and one of them tested positive for morphine.
They were being remanded until Friday to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he added. — Bernama
