PETALING JAYA: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) will allow borrowers earning less than RM4,000 a month to defer repaying their study loans.
"In line with the 100-day pledge of the PH (Pakatan Harapan) manifesto, PTPTN will allow deferment of repayment for borrowers earning less than RM4,000 per month," PTPTN chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan said today.
"The date of the implementation of this move will be made known later."
To enable this, PTPTN borrowers, who have accrued an outstanding balance after the one-year grace period, will have to update their personal information. Otherwise it will be assumed that they do not wish to delay their repayment.
Wan Saiful said the updated information would help the corporation identify borrowers who earn less than RM4,000.
"These are information pertaining to their occupation, salary, phone number and email address," he said.
"They have until July 25 and an audit will then be conducted by PTPTN. If it is not done within the stipulated time, we will assume that they don't wish to delay the repayment, of their loans and they will not be included in new policies with regards to the matter."

As part of its election manifesto, PH pledged to allow fresh graduates who earn less than RM4,000 to delay settling their loans.
Borrowers can update their information on the corporation's official portal, www.ptptn.gov.my under "Pengemaskinian Maklumat Pendapat".
