Woman loses savings for mother's cancer treatment to sweet-talking employer

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman who was saving up for her mother's cancer treatment ended up losing all the money to a sweet-talking employer.
However, the 24-year-old victim, who wanted to be known as "Leong", claimed that she was hypnotised (pukau) by her former boss into loaning her the money.
Leong was initially hired in April as a clerk for a furniture business in Semenyih, Kajang.
Her boss, a 35-year-old woman, apparently started to sweet-talk her and managed to borrow RM56,000 from Leong.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said Leong gave away the money via three transactions.
"The suspect disappeared on April 29 after loaning the money," Chong told reporters at the department headquarters here today.
Leong said she had been "put under a spell" by her former employer.
Chong said Leong had lodged a police report on May 17, claiming to have fallen prey to such a scam.
"The money was originally meant for her 63-year-old mother's cancer stage four treatment," he added.
Leong also later learned that her other two colleagues had been duped as well.
Chong urged those with information on the syndicate to lodge a report with the bureau or the police.
The suspect has since disappeared and Leong's efforts to contact her have been futile.
