Authorities shut down three Jalan Penang food outlets

GEORGE TOWN: The authorities have ordered the closure of a famous coffeeshop along Jalan Penang and two other food outlets for violating hygiene and health standards.
In a joint operation carried out by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and state Health Department officers today, six premises were inspected while three were ordered to close for two weeks.
The inspection was led by the council's senior health officer Goh Eng Chun and state Health Department senior assistant environmental officer S. Patmanathan.
He said a total of 10 compounds were issued to the six eateries.
The enforcement team found that the premises failed to comply with the health department guidelines, while rat droppings were found in some of the outlets.
Goh said one of the eateries was issued a RM250 compound for discharging waste into the drain.
He said the council would cooperate with the health authorities to ensure all eateries in town are clean and adhere to the stipulated standards in food preparation.
On July 13, the state Health Department ordered the closure of 12 food outlets for two weeks for violating hygiene and health standards.
