KUALA LUMPUR: There is a clause within the Malaysia-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) bilateral agreement that allows either country to pull of the project, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) revealed today.
The Economic Affairs Minister however said this is subject to the terms of the contract that has been signed by the two countries.
"The agreement that was signed previously provides a clause for any of the two nations to cancel the project. However, there are several terms that needed to be abided with," he said during the Question and Answer session in parliament, here, today.
He however did not disclose if any compensation needed to be paid to Singapore if Malaysia pulled of the deal.
Mohamed Azmin was asked by opposition leader Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (BN-Bagan Datuk) to comment on the aspects of the HSR agreement that is currently being reviewed by the federal government.
"If this project can't be realised looking at our current economic scenario, then the government's stand will be to discuss with the relevant quarters so that all the terms are abided with," he said.
