IT was utter chaos on a field located on the outskirts of Taman Tun Dr Ismail on Jul 11, as close to 40 children were engaged in friendly rounds of not just dodgeball, but with the national team from the Malaysia Dodgeball Federation (MDF) calling the play.
Organised by Kenny Rogers ROASTERS (KRR) as part of a Jamuan Raya for children from Rumah Ilham orphanage, the friendly bout of dodgeball even saw the MDF team taking the field to show the young ones what a professional match would look like.
After the activity session, the children and their caretakers were treated to a delicious meal, on KRR.
"The festive season is never complete without a wholesome and delicious warm meal enjoyed with our loved ones. We are especially delighted to be joined by the MDF team who took some time off their busy schedule to share this joyous event with the children," said Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd senior marketing manager Thila Chandran.
Speaking to theSun, MDF captain and coach Muhamad Heidy Mohd Yusoff expressed surprise on seeing the great potential some of the children displayed despite their relatively young age and lack of exposure to the sport.
"Kenny Rogers has done a really good job in terms of partnering up with these kinds of houses for charity. I think this is where our target (and purpose) should be; growing at a grassroots level and giving back to the society. I really hope that we continue building this type of relationship with KRR and the people of Malaysia," said Muhamad Heidy.
Heidy also mentioned that the "team" are currently preparing for the upcoming 2018 Dodgeball World Cup games to be held at Madison Square Garden in New York on Aug 3 and 4.
