Not leaving party, says Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin today stood his ground on not joining opposition MPs in the mass walkout from the Dewan Rakyat yesterday event though it earned him the label of not being a team player.
The former Umno Youth chief said that although it appeared as though he was a rebel, he remained loyal to his party (Umno).
"Of course not (about leaving Umno)," he said when met at the Parliament lobby today after the opening of the 14th Parliament by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
Umno and PAS MPs staged the walkout because they were unhappy about the way the new Pakatan Harapan government went about regarding the choice of the new Speaker.
Meanwhile, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the joint walkout did not mean that the two parties planned to merge.
He said that PAS did not dismiss cooperating with any party if it was good for the country but would not entertain the idea of merging with any (party). — Bernama
