303,856 permanent, temporary resident card holders as of June 30

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat was told today that the number of permanent resident (MyPR) and temporary resident (MyKas) identity card holders as of June 30 were 269,899 and 33,957 respectively.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said according to the states, there were 38,239 MyPR card holders and 1,709 MyKas card holders in Johor; Kedah 5,535 (MyPR) and 207 (MyKas); Kelantan 5,019 (MyPR) and 1,878 (MyKas) as well as Malacca 411 (MyPR) and 275 (MyKas).
"In Negri Sembilan 6,423 (MyPR) and 242 (MyKas); Pahang 7,800 (MyPR) and 261 (MyKas); Penang 10,565 (MyPR) and 161 (MyKas); Perak 11,065 (MyPR) and 487 (MyKas); Perlis 1,079 (MyPR) and 38 (MyKas); Selangor 10,845 (MyPR) and 849 (MyKas).
"In Terengganu 44,288 (MyPR) and 21,140 (MyKas); Sabah 2,399 (MyPR) and 1,507 (MyKas); Sarawak 75,440 (MyPR) and 2,417 (MyKas); Kuala Lumpur 2,515 (MyPR) and 419 (MyKas); Labuan 44,995 (MyPR) and 1,137 (MyKas); and Putrajaya 3,281 (MyPR) and 330 (MyKas)," he said during the Ministers' Question Time.
He was replying to a question from Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) on the number of the two identity card holders and also the stateless people in the country.
Liew said the government always complied with the requirements set by the law in granting citizenship to ensure the MyPR and MyKas were given to individuals who were truly eligible and could contribute significantly to the country.
"For those aged 60 and above, leniency is given by the government by taking into account the knowledge of the language but only for certain cases.
"As of July 2, a total of 106 applications have been approved by the ministry," he said. — Bernama
