Govt to study to retain or dissolve Iksim

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is studying whether to retain the Malaysian Islamic Strategic Research Institute (IKSIM) or dissolve it, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) Dr Fuziah Salleh.
She said the government had frozen the institute's funds until the study was completed.
"Since we came into JPM, (no representative of) IKSIM has even shown their faces. We are reviewing it, we know it was set up under a private company, and we are looking at it closely.
"Their request for funds have been frozen, we are not approving (anything) until we have cleaned up and reviewed to see if we want to change the board (members), retain or dissolve it," she said during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Fuziah was replying to a supplementary question from Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (PH-Hulu Langat) who wanted to know the government's stand on IKSIM which he claimed was not free of political party influence.
Responding to the original question from Tan Sri Annuar Musa (BN-Ketereh) about the dissolution of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Fuziah said the government would not dissolve the body but would strengthen it further. — Bernama
