PETALING JAYA: Several items previously taxed under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be exempted under the returning Sales and Services Tax (SST).
Among them are canned sardines, instant noodles and other processed or manufactured foods. Pakatan Harapan had blamed for the rise in the cost of living on the taxing of these items.
Also exempted from SST are goods that were already tax exempted under the GST, such as fresh and frozen produce and meats.
Customs Director-General Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy said other goods would be subject to either five percent or 10% tax.
He added that the list of taxed items has yet to be finalised.
