New flights to S'pore and JB to boost Perak's tourism industry

IPOH: Perak is set to become a major tourism destination in the region with flights coming into its capital city of Ipoh from Singapore and Johor Baru before the end of the year.
State Tourism, Arts and Cultural Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing said in a statement that the flights will be operated by AirAsia.
The Singapore-Ipoh flights are expected to start in November while the Johor Bahru-Ipoh flights would commence in October, he said.
Both flight paths would use an A320 type airplane that can accommodate 180 passengers at a time, added Tan who is also Simpang Pulai State Assemblyman.
He added that the new routes would have a positive impact on the tourism industry in the state.
Tan said the state government would also look at infrastructure facilities at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here to ensure that it was suitable to accommodate more routes and flights.
There would be four flights per week on the Johor Bahru-Ipoh route, he said.
Flights from Johor Baru would leave at 7.30am while those from Ipoh would depart at 9.15am.
As for the flights from Singapore, they would depart at 9.10am while those from Ipoh to the city state would leave at 10.45am
Earlier Malaysia's chief executive officer, Riad Asmat, said that the Johor Bahru-Ipoh flight would be the airline's 16th domestic route.
Meanwhile, Tan said an online television production crew from Singapore had been filming the state's many tourist attractions here.
The state government was supporting such programmes as Perak had so much to offer such as the Royal Belum State Park in Gerik, Gunung Lang and Bulatan Meru, he said.
Actor Terence Cao, from the Singapore crew said the initial plan was to record only four episodes for the travel show.
"However, with so many recordings, I am not sure now as to the number of episodes there would be on the show," he said. — Bernama
