Bribery probe: Remand of three cops extended, two released

SEREMBAN: The remand order on three of the five policemen who were detained to facilitate investigations into a corruption case involving the sale of drugs, has been extended.
The policemen aged between 29 and 51, were remanded last Sunday after they were suspected of soliciting a RM5,000 bribe from a man.
A 29-year-old suspect was remanded for seven days while the other two aged 50 and 51 had their remand extended for another day.
Seremban Special Remand Court assistant registrar Emysuriana Ahmad allowed the extension of the remand order following an application by MACC prosecutor Mohd Khairi Abdul Karim to conduct an investigation under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Meanwhile, two other suspects, a corporal and a lance corporal aged 29 and 37 were released on RM 5,000 bail each.
All five were detained by the MACC last Saturday between 2pm and 11.40pm. Four were detained at the Negri Sembilan MACC Office after giving their statements while another was arrested at the main road opposite the Jempol district police headquarters. — Bernama
