KUALA TERENGGANU: The construction of the Kuala Terengganu Bypass (KT-Bypass) project which should have been completed in January is expected to be delayed by people reluctant to move out of the plots of land where the highway is to be built.
Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir said that with the delay, KT Bypass was expected to be completed by July next year, if negotiations with residents in 21 plots of land around Kampung Durian Burung runs smoothly.
"So, we will continue to negotiate with them so that this project will not be delayed as it will impact the financial situation at the Federal and state levels.
"I believe they understand the importance of this project as it will benefit 70,000 residents around Kuala Terengganu, I appeal to all parties (the residents) to cooperate in this regard so that planned development is not delayed," he told reporters after conducting a survey of the project here, today.
The overall cost of the KT Bypass project which starts from the Tok Molor intersection, Jalan Tok Adis here to Kampung Durian Burung is RM321.9 million including compensation of RM116 million to owners of 171 plots of land. — Bernama
