No schools in S'gor closed due to HFMD

KUALA LUMPUR: No schools have been closed due to hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Selangor, according to the Health Ministry.
"Based on checks conducted by the Health Ministry, currently there are no schools or classes that have been closed in Selangor due to HFMD.
"There are only two HFMD clusters which are in two different schools and neither of the schools or their classes has been shut," its director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today.
He was responding to a viral message that claimed some 51 schools in the state had been closed due to the disease.
The message alleged that areas such as Subang, Shah Alam, Puchong, Kepong, Sunway SPK and Desa Park City had been affected.
HFMD is a viral disease caused by the Coxsackie A16 and Enterovirus 71 virus and the symptoms include fever, rash (maculopapular and vesicles) in the palms and feet and ulcers in the mouth and on the tongue, as well as upper respiratory tract infection. It is spread through saliva, blisters and faeces.
