Work on KL City Plan 2020-2040 to begin next year

KUALA LUMPUR: The draft for the new Kuala Lumpur City Plan for the next twenty years will be studied after the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 is gazetted by year-end.
Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad said the ministry will start working on the new plan which is from 2020 to 2040 from early next year.
"The focus of this new plan will include city planning and development, plot ratio as well as ways to resolve city congestion problems and improve the road system," he told reporters after chairing the first council meeting between the ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
The Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020-2040 will be gazetted by 2020, he added.
"Projects that have already been approved by the government will not be affected, but in certain controversial projects we will look into it separately and negotiate with the developer," he said.
Khalid also said there were many unresolved issues that need to be handled before it can be made official, contributing to the delay in the announcement of the KL City Plan 2020.
Today's meeting was attended by KL Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, DBKL's senior officers, KL MPs and their representatives.
He said the meeting to be held once every two months, would serve as a platform to discuss and debate on issues affecting the local communities.
Khalid also refuted reports that he did not approve the budgets for contractors undertaking community infrastructure projects such as road maintenance and solid waste management.
"I will be meeting with contractors in the next two weeks to listen to their feedback. I didn't disapprove the budget and there is no excuse for them to stop doing the work," he stressed.
Khalid said he would also be meeting with residents who filed complaints on controversial projects, to listen to their feedback.
