KUALA LUMPUR: Newly appointed opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will give the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government one year to lower prices with the impending implementation of the Sales and Services Tax (SST).
Ahmad Zaid said that he will not only give the government 100 days but he will give them one year from the date of the implementation of the SST which begins on September 1 to prove that they can reduce the cost of living for the Rakyat.
"I want to see how this reduction in the country's income is returned to the people to bring down the cost of living," he said.
He said that the government's promises have fallen short of expectation since they took power on May 9.
"When they removed GST they said prices would go down, but that has not happened. They also said that the price of petrol will go down, now their saying petrol will follow the price of the market instead of going down," he said at a press conference in Parliament here today.
"If you are promising and not fulfilling it then you should not be promising at all," said the Umno president.
He said don't use the previous government as a Scapegoat for all the current government issues.
"Don't use the previous government as an excuse," he said.
