Switch from white to black shoes to be done in stages

PETALING JAYA: The government's proposal for students to switch from white to black school shoes next year will be done in stages.
In a Facebook posting today, Education Ministry director-general Datuk Amin Senin said the ministry was reviewing all factors in the matter.
He said there would be no burden on parents and students, as some of them would have already bought white school shoes, and some may not be able to afford new shoes.
In a talk show "Program Bicara Minda Bersama Mentri Pendidikan" (A Discussion with the Education Minister) on Thursday, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said students would be allowed to wear black school shoes beginning 2019.
Maszlee said the decision was made after the ministry took into consideration the views of parents and guardians when he became minister.
"Many parents, especially mothers, voiced this out, so from next year, the ministry will allow all students to use black shoes," he said.
Maszlee said the decision to allow schoolchildren to wear black shoes was one of the innovations which will be implemented by the ministry to ensure that parents once again choose to send their children to national schools to study.
