BESUT: A family outing to a durian orchard ended with a tragedy when one of them drowned in a stream nearby.
The incident occurred at about 11.30am yesterday near Kampung Pok Sik, Hulu Besut.
Mohd Azmi Mohamad, 47, said he took his wife, Saliza Mustaffa, 43, and their three children, including seven-year-old Anas Altaf Mustafa, to the durian orchard, which belonged to a friend, to look for the king of fruits.
"There was stream about 30m away and Anas, together with his younger brother, went there to play, while my wife and I looked for the durians.
"Suddenly, my youngest son came running towards us and said his brother was dead," said Mohd Azmi when met at the Besut Hospital.
Mohd Azmi said when he and his wife got to the stream, they found Anas Altaf Mustafa floating and then took him to the Pasir Akar Health Clinic where a medical officer there pronounced him dead.
The body was then sent to Besut Hospital for post-mortem.
