SANDAKAN: Only one school in Sabah remains closed following the hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) outbreak early this month.
State Education Department director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibol said Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hwa in Sipitang, was the only school closed now.
She said the nine other schools in the state that were closed earlier would be reopened on Monday. A total of 32 pupils in the state had contracted the disease.
Maimunah said that school authorities should, however, continue to monitor their pupils especially those in preschools.
Parents must also make sure their children are in good health and should they have HFMD symptoms, the children should be immediately taken to the nearest health clinic or hospital, she said after an awards ceremony here today.
The excellent service awards were presented to education department staff from the Kinabatangan and Tongod District Education Offices. — Bernama
