Govt plans to repeal Sosma: Tun M

SHAH ALAM: The government plans to repeal the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act passed in 2012 widely seen as a replacement to the Internal Security Act, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said the Act was unfair and the people would suffer under it.
"People arrested under the Act had no access to court and if they died under custody there would be no inquiry and those responsible would not face any action" he said.
Mahathir said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) will uphold the Rule of Law unlike the former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's administration.
He said under Najib's leadership the government machinery has been seriously be damaged.
"We need time to recover and repair the damage done by Najib to the government machinery.
"PH has already started taking action to remove those senior people who were there only to serve Najib," Mahathir told a gather of about 3,000 people who had donated RM3.47 million to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.
The Prime Minister also thanked everyone for having the courage to vote out Barisan Nasional and Najib.
Mahathir said he had to remove officers who were involved in sustaining Najib.
He added the damage cause by Najib was widespread and involved those from the police, armed forces and civil service.
He said the people must give PH some time to recover because not only had the government machinery been destroyed, it has also been misused.
He added that the debt burden was far worse than previously suspected but with the help and sacrifice of the people the nation will be able to recover.
Mahathir said the people had rejected the "dictatorship" that was ruling the country and they have given the duty of running and improving the country to Pakatan.
