Nga Kor Ming stresses that he has never been against any religion or race

DEWAN Rakyat Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming, who is known for his oratory skills and sometimes "controversial" speeches, emphasises that he is not anti-Malay.
The Teluk Intan MP and Perak DAP chief said he has been fighting to uphold democracy of the country, justice and equality, and has never been against any religion or race.
"I always believe that whether you are Chinese, Malays, Indians or (Malaysians of) other races, we are all Malaysians," he was quoted as saying in an interview with Sin Chew Daily today.
"I even told Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo on my first day as the deputy speaker that his ministry should launch a 'We are Malaysians' campaign in conjunction with the National Day celebration, so that the people of Malaysia look at problems from the national and Malaysian perspective, irrespective of race, religion and skin colour."
Nga, who is also DAP deputy secretary-general, believes some people may have misunderstood his political speeches and perceived them as extreme. He said he had delivered more than 2,000 speeches in the last two decades and admitted that some of them could have attracted controversies.
But to be an outstanding speaker, one has to use the simplest language to explain the most profound theories to make a lasting impression in the audience, he said.
"Your audiences were not members of Parliament, royalties or dignitaries ... but Joe public.
"If I speak at a new village, I must use the languages of the villagers. If I only talk to show oratory skills, I would be 'talking to myself'," he said.
