Presenting cash rewards that rounded off to RM228,800 to 510 children of the company’s employees, Maybank Group chief human capital officer Nora Manaf said, “The Maybank Group Staff’s Children Academic Excellence Award (MGSCAEA) continues to be a part of our tradition in recognising high achieving academic performers”.
“It has been part of the group’s commitment for 32 years, honouring children of our employees and more importantly to further strengthen the relationship between the group, employees and their children,” she added.
Together with Maybank Group president and CEO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, the pair presented the cash awards to the children at a ceremony.
The MGSCAEA monetary rewards were handed out to staff’s children who did well in their 2017 public examinations, particularly the Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) .
Among the recipients were twins - Navanita Rajasegar and Navaneethan Rajasegar who scored CGPAs of 3.5 in their STPM; Nur Arissa Maisarah Nadhri who attained 8As in SPM; and Amanda Low and Yamini a/p Saaran who scored 7As and 9As respectively for the PT3 examination.
“My decision to decline an offer from a Teacher’s Training College and opt to continue my education in Form Six was indeed a tough call,” said Navanita, who was driven by her new-found passion to learn more about Economics, offered in the Form Six syllabus.
Nur Arissa, daughter of a Maybank employee of more than 20 years, was overjoyed to be included as an award recipient besides making her mother proud.
This year, there were several repeat student beneficiaries, 35 of whom received cash awards last year who have maintained a good academic track record.
On the whole, out of the 510 high-scorer recipients this year, 263 excelled in the PT3 examination, 228 in SPM, 17 in STPM and two in the STAM.
