KUALA LUMPUR: The decision on which ministry will oversee the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will be finalised before the Pakatan Harapan's (PH) 100-day manifesto period ends, according to Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.
He said Mara was under the purview of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Development before the ministry was disbanded in 2009, and was placed under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry until PH took over the government after the May 9 general election.
"Under this new government, it is most likely that Mara will be returned to the ministry in charge of entrepreneur development.
"I personally feel that there are many aspects involving entrepreneur development, which were ceased in 2009, need to be resumed," he told reporters after visiting Mara headquarters, here today.
When asked if Mara was placed under the purview of his ministry, Mohd Redzuan said no major changes would be done to the institution, but certain improvements on the existing policy would be needed.
Mara was established on March 1, 1966, under the Parliamentary Act to promote, encourage, facilitate and carry out economic and community development programme for the Bumiputera, especially in rural areas. — Bernama
