KUALA LUMPUR: Two senior assistant directors of the National Civics Bureau are among five individuals detained by the Sarawak branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today for allegedly making false claims amounting to RM600,000.
Sources said the three men and two women, aged between 34 and 55, were detained at 4.30pm after they came to give their statements at the Sarawak MACC Office.
"They were believed to have abetted 43 companies in Sarawak in submitting documents containing false information in their claim applications," he said.
He said the amount of each claim ranged between RM2,000 and RM6,000 and payments were deposited directly into several company owners' accounts in 2016.
"All the five suspects are believed to have gained profit from the companies of their choice.
"Initial investigation found 70% of the services or supplies stated by the companies were non-existent or not implemented during the stated period," the source said.
Sarawak MACC director Razim Mohd Noor, when contacted, confirmed the arrests.
The case is being further investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
