KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will host the 22nd Asean Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of Ministries of Foreign Affairs Meeting (DGICM), which will be held here from Aug 5 to 9.
According to Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali (pix), the annual meeting would discuss various regional issues of common interest including the threat of terrorism, security as well as the effectiveness of border control management and joint enforcement among Asean countries.
"Besides the Asean Secretariat, the 22nd DGICM will involve the participation of directors-general of Immigration Departments from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam," he said.
He said this to Bernama after appearing as a guest on the Bernama News Channel talk show 'Ruang Bicara' programme here last night.
This is the second time Malaysia is hosting the DGICM, after having hosted it previously in 2007.
Mustafar said the meeting would also serve as a platform for Asean directors-general of Immigration Departments to discuss issues pertaining to immigration management and formulate new strategies to face regional security challenges.
He said other regional issues such as the threat of terrorism, human trafficking and smuggling activities would also be discussed in the meeting. — Bernama
