PETALING JAYA: MCA and MIC have been asked to make their stand on Datuk Lokman Adam who in standing in the Sungai Kandis by-election.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang (pix) asked if the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties regard Lokman as the model Umno leader they want post-14th General Election.
"Lokman Noor Adam insists that he is not a racist but do MCA and MIC support his candidature?" Lim asked in a statement today.
"MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong is talking on all issues under the sun, but on three issues he has kept a strange silence."
The Iskandar Puteri MP said Wee had been silent on Datuk Seri Najib Razak's role in the 1MDB corruption and money-laundering scandal, the secret letter by the former prime minister's spy chief to the CIA five days before the 14th General Election, and Lokman's candidature.
Lokman believes that he can wrest the Sungai Kandis state seat from Pakatan Harapan (PH) if PAS campaigns for him ahead of the coming by-election, Lim said.
Lokman had said he would be able to pull off a narrow victory if 80% of PAS supporters backed him and 17% of the votes that went to Harapan in the 14GE switched support to him.
However, PAS had said it won't campaign for BN at the by-election.
Umno Supreme Council member Lokman is going up against PKR's Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate K. Murthy in the by-election on Aug 4.
