'Off River Storage' project under review
MALACCA: The Malacca government is reviewing the 'Off River Storage' (ORS) project in Alor Gajah costing RM300 million to ensure it meets the needs of the people in the area, especially in Masjid Tanah.
Chief Minister Adly Zahari (pix) said there was a need for the ORS but the state government needed to re-evaluate it as to whether it meets requirements and any decision on this would be made this year.
On Monday, the media had reported that water concessionaire Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad had asked the new Pakatan Harapan government in Malacca to clarify the status of the project.
The ORS has dual functions, namely for flood mitigation and water storage during droughts and it would also help reduce the state's dependence on raw water supply from Johor. — Bernama
