KUANTAN: The construction project for the electricity delivery network through the forest area around Janda Baik has received the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) reports.
Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail (pix) said the project belonging to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and costing RM1.5 billion received the EIA approval on Oct 12, 2017, followed by the EMP on Dec 28, 2017.
He said the project, which is a national project with the government acting as the facilitator, involved the Lentang forest reserve area measuring 170ha, from Janda Baik to Lenggeng, Negri Sembilan.
He added that no logging activities were allowed currently and the TNB would only allow work on opening roads after completing repair and prevention works to reduce the impact of pollution.
"Among the improvements carried out were to appoint a representative of the villagers in carrying out daily monitoring and submitting reports to the Forestry Department.
"The pollution that had occurred would be rehabilitated beforehand and was expected to be ready very soon," he said during the winding up on the motion of thanks for the royal address by the Pahang Regent Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at Wisma Sri Pahang, here today.
The State Assembly will continue at a date to be determined later. — Bernama
