Project delivery partner, MRCB-George Kent, welcomes investigations into LRT3 project

PETALING JAYA: MRCB George Kent Joint Venture (MRCBGK), the project delivery partner of the Light Rail Transit (LRT3) on Saturday said, it welcomes investigations on corruption and financial mismanagement into the LRT3 in an effort to allay the public's concerns that taxpayers’ money has been misused in the LRT3’s conception and execution.
MRCBGK was appointed as the PDP of LRT3 on Sept 4, 2015.
"MRCBGK would like to inform the public that it has been cooperating closely with the present administration, particularly the Ministry of Finance in reducing the cost of the project. MRCBGK has always emphasized integrity in our dealings with all parties including clients, partners and contractors and has a zero-tolerance policy on corruption," it said in a statement.
MRCBGK said at commencement of the project in 2015, they had requested and received on secondment a senior officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as an Integrity Advisor. The official was also appointed to the Board of Directors of MRCBGK to ensure full compliance at the highest levels of leadership, to good governance and integrity in the execution of the LRT3 project.
With the project in full swing, it also recently requested and welcomed another MACC official into the project as Chief Integrity Officer.
MRCBGK called the appointments and secondments unprecedented, underscoring its commitment towards the principles of integrity, transparency and good governance in undertaking large scale public projects.
"We believe the current investigations will help shed more light on the cost escalation and the project’s scope expansion and will cooperate fully with the authorities such as the MACC when requested. We are confident that the outcome of these investigations will help allay public concerns and restore confidence that the LRT3 is a viable infrastructure that will be beneficial to the people," MRCBGK said.
