IPOH: Motorists in Perak will soon have an additional option of paying for parking when an application on smartphones is rolled out by next year.
The existing coupon system will also be standardised in all the 15 local councils from January.
At present, motorists will have to buy the respective local council coupons to pay for parking.
"The briefing on the system, including the implementation of the e-parking, will be conducted by the company which handles the application in all the councils next month," State Housing, Local Government, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs and New Villages Committee chairman Yong Choo Kiong said.
"As a first step, we want to standardise the coupon system and at the same time for the convenience of the public we want to introduce online banking or payment via credit card.
"With one application it can be used in all the councils. I hope motorists will choose the e-parking system," he said, adding that the coupon system will however not be discontinued.
Yong was speaking to reporters after attending the swearing in ceremony of 23 councillors of Ipoh City Council to serve until July 14, 2019 here today.
The appointment included that of Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Zamri Man, with 10 members from DAP, four from PKR, Parti Amanah Negara (four), and four from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
