PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s producer price index (PPI) for local production rose 0.1% on a year-on-year basis in June 2018 as compared to a decrease of 0.4% in May 2018, according to the Statistics Department.
Among the sectors which increased during this period were mining (33.1%) and electricity and gas supply (1.3%), the department said.
It said the index that registered decreases were agriculture, forestry and fishing (down by 10.1%), manufacturing (2%) and water supply (0.2%) sectors.
On a monthly basis, PPI for local production fell 0.7% in June 2018, due to the decreases in agriculture, forestry and fishing, mining, electricity and gas supply, water supply as well as manufacturing, it added.
Meanwhile, the PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) declined by 0.7% in June 2018. It said this was due to the negative changes in the index for crude materials for further processing, finished goods and intermediate materials, supplies and components.
“As compared with the same month a year ago, the PPI for local production by SOP for June 2018 rose 0.1% attributed by crude materials for further processing (12.3%).
“Meanwhile, the index for finished goods slipped 3.4% and intermediate materials, supplies and components decreased 2.5%,” it added.
