    Lombok earthquake: Singapore offers assistance to Indonesia

SINGAPORE: Singapore has offered assistance to Indonesia following Sunday's earthquake which struck the tourist island of Lombok in the province of West Nusa Tenggara.
"Singapore stands ready to assist Indonesia in whatever way we can," said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his letter to President Joko Widodo of Indonesia.
Lee wrote that he is deeply saddened by news of the earthquake which has resulted in the tragic loss of lives, injuries, and destruction.
"On behalf of the people of Singapore, I offer my heartfelt condolences to Indonesia and the families affected by the disaster.
''My thoughts are with the people of Indonesia during this difficult time, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery," he penned.
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Lombok at 5.47am on Sunday, killing 14 people, including a Malaysian, Siti Nur Ismawida Ismail, 30, who was on a climbing mission to Mount Rinjani, an active volcano. — Bernama
