Datasonic to pursue amicable settlement with Fima Corp

PETALING JAYA: Datasonic Group Bhd said it will pursue an amicable settlement with Fima Corp Bhd’s Percetakan Keselamatan Nasional Sdn Bhd (PKN) with regards to a RM24.98 million suit for unpaid dues filed by PKN.
The group told the stock exchange that its unit Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB) will leave it to the court to determine the fair price should it fail to come to an agreement with PKN.
Datasonic is of the view that the legal suit will not affect its five-year Malaysian passport booklets contract with the government as PKN was only a sub-contractor appointed for an interim period of six months.
DTSB commenced producing and supplying the new design of Malaysian passport booklets since September 2017.
DTSB had agreed to appoint PKN as a subcontractor to deliver the first 1.5 million old Malaysian Passport design booklets from Dec 1, 2016 until May 31, 2017 and a copy of the draft agreement was sent to PKN based on DTSB’s offered price.
PKN however, did not agree to DTSB’s offered price but continued to supply the old Malaysian Passport booklets.
“As a result, no agreement was signed but PKN had decided to deliver the 1.5 million old Malaysian passport designed booklets with full understanding that pricing were to be agreed upon at future date,” Datasonic said.
The official launching of the new design Malaysian passport booklets from four icons to twelve icons that incorporated the design concept of flora and fauna, batik, songket and 5 National Principles of Malaysia (Rukun Negara) of which the old Malaysian Passport did not possess, was done in January 2018.
Datasonic’s share price closed 2.5 sen lower to 78.5 sen with some 3.23 million shares changing hands.
