Green cover loss raises the heat

IT would appear that Penang Island City Council has not learnt its lesson. Last year, it angered many residents in Island Glades when it cleared many plants at and around a public park.
This year the council's workers did it again on July 19 and 23. In addition, they cut down a few trees.
Is it difficult for the council's officers to meet the residents, who are ratepayers? We are not unreasonable.
There has to be a dialogue where the officers can explain the action to be taken and the residents in turn can point out the downside of the actions.
Many of the residents are stumped why the trees were cut down?
In future a notice should be put up to inform the residents when the council would be cutting down the trees. This would enable concerned residents to meet and talk with council workers.
It would be helpful if a well-informed officer was present to provide clear explanations to questions from residents. This kind of dialogue promotes harmony and understanding.
We like to invite the media to visit the Island Glades park to learn first-hand how angry the affected residents are with the council's overzealous pruning and park maintenance.
Media coverage will compel the council to hold dialogue sessions with residents living near various parks in Penang island before taking any action to cut down trees.
This letter has signatures of 213 angry residents.
