Luno reaches 2 million customers

    PETALING JAYA: Luno, a leading global cryptocurrency company, announced its two millionth customer yesterday.
    With a team of 250+ spread across three main hubs: London, Singapore and Cape Town, Luno's customers span over more than 40 countries worldwide.
    In the last month alone, more than US302 billion worth of cryptocurrency trades* have been completed globally, demonstrating the soaring appetite for the cryptocurrency industry across the world. Bitcoin, the first and most popular cryptocurrency, now exceeds the US$125 billion total market capitalisation.
    Marcus Swanepoel, Co-founder and CEO of Luno said in a statement, “Reaching the two million customers is a significant achievement. We strongly believe that by making Bitcoin more accessible through education and by offering a user-friendly, safe platform more and more people across the globe can benefit from a better financial system”.
    He added, “This milestone demonstrates the growing adoption of cryptocurrencies across the globe and reinforces our aim of reimagining a financial system where money is cheaper, faster and safer with open and equal access for everyone.”
    The Luno currently offers three core products: Luno Wallet: Consumer payments, cryptocurrency conversion and storage; Luno Exchange: Professional cryptocurrency trading platform and Luno Enterprise: Merchant integration, open API’s, institutional investors.
    Luno was founded by CTO Timothy Stranex, a former Google software engineer and CEO Marcus Swanepoel, a former investment banker.
    Co-founded by CEO Marcus Swanepoel and CTO Timothy Stranex, Luno has raised over US$13m in funding since launch in 2013 and is backed by global tech giant, the Naspers Group, who led their Series A round, and Balderton Capital who led their Series B round, amongst others.
