PETALING JAYA: A contractor was charged in the sessions court here today for assaulting his first wife with a belt last month.
Azwardibin Zaidi, 32, pleaded not guilty to deliberately causing injury to Nurul Nadia Mohammad Salleh, 29, by hitting her with a belt and causing injuries to her body.
The offence was allegedly committed by the father of five at a house in Kampung Lindungan, here, at 2.30pm on Aug 26 under Section 324 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the same code, which provides a maximum jail term of 20 years, or fine, or whipping, or whichever two of the sentences.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Shafiq Hasim did not offer any bail but left it to the court to decide if it was allowed.
Lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh, who represented Azwardibin, asked his client to be given a minimum bail on the grounds that the accused still had to support his family, including the five children, as well as providing good cooperation to the police.
"For the court's information, my client is no longer staying with his first wife and today his second wife is present in court to bail him," he said.
Judge Hilmiah Yusof granted a bail of RM10,000 in one surety and fixed Oct 3 for mention of the case. — Bernama
