PETALING JAYA: Perodua dealers and vendors have welcomed the introduction of the Sales and Service Tax (SST), saying its implementation has managed to reduce the prices of their vehicles.

In a joint statement today, the Perodua Dealers Association (PDA) and the Perodua Vendors' Club (KVP) noted the new tax structure, which imposes a 10% tax on sales and a 6% tax on services, is only applied once at the beginning of the business value chain.
KVP president Musa Zahidin Ahmad Zahidi said this has led the overall price of the Perodua vehicles to be brought down between one and 3%.
"We would like to thank the government for engaging and explaining to the industry players how this new tax structure is implemented," he said.
Musa Zahidin added that he hoped the government would continue engaging the Malaysian automotive stakeholders on future policies.
Perodua had, on Monday, announced that the prices of its vehicles would be reduced by up to 3% for most of its models as compared to the price list under the previous Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Meanwhile, PDA president Khairul Nizam Ayob said the price reduction would go a long way in making the automotive industry more attractive and competitive.
SST was implemented on Sept 1 to replace the 6% rated GST, as part of the Pakatan Harapan's (PH) government election pledge to reduce the rakyat's cost of living.
