KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Ministry will evaluate and review the operating hours of entertainment outlets in the Federal Capital and may tighten the conditions for licences.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh said the move was an effort to curb illegal activities like gambling and drug abuse which were found in these outlets.
"The efforts to curb illegal activities include cyber centres, illegal gambling outlets, entertainment outlets and unlicensed massage parlours," he said when winding-up the debate on the motion of thanks on the address of the Yang di Pertuan Agong at the Senate sitting today.
He said in order to curb illegal activities in entertainment outlets, the ministry would continue with the Integrated Operations to Curb Illegal Activities (Ops BAH) which is jointly conducted with various agencies and non-governmental organisations.
He said the operations also focused on the misuse of business licences, offences related to illegal immigrants and syariah offences.
Shahruddin also said the Ops BAH was recently conducted on an entertainment outlet which was popular among the gay community where 20 Muslim men were checked for various offences including drug abuse.
He said surveillance conducted by the ministry found six more entertainment outlets in the city which were popular among this community and it was monitoring them. — Bernama
