PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli (pix) said an MP from the party will resign next week to pave the way for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to make a political comeback.
Rafizi made this revelation during a ceramah in Kota Baru on Friday night, according to a report by an online news portal.
Speaking of the party president-elect's impending return to Parliament and active politics, Rafizi said many PKR MPs were willing to make way for Anwar but added that there were some who were not prepared to do so.
According to the report by Malaysiakini, Rafizi referred to PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and the party's Women's chief Zuraida Kamaruddin as those who were not willing to make way for Anwar.
Rafizi is contesting against Azmin in the PKR elections for the post of deputy president.
He added that the party's priority is to ensure Anwar becomes the party president, and elected MP and eventually succeed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
Polling for the PKR party elections will start on Sept 14 in Kelantan and Terengganu, followed by the other states in the peninsular and ends on Oct 13 in Sabah.
An estimate of 800,000 PKR members are eligible to vote in the polls involving 218 divisions nationwide.
