SUNGAI PETANI: Rogue cops are hampering efforts of the police force to clean up vice and gambling dens.
This comes following the arrest of two inspectors and a corporal by the Malaysian-Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) after they allegedly collected bribes from operators of a massage parlour in Seberang Prai.
In the Sept 7 incident at 2pm, the Sungai Petani MACC detained the three policemen attached to Seberang Prai South district Special Branch Division.
A source told theSun that the three were tasked to monitor and conduct raids at massage parlours and gambling dens in the district.
"When they (the cops) had completed their duties, the MACC team detained one of the senior policemen for allegedly taking bribes from a massage parlour "taukeh" (main operator) in return for protection.
"Following the incident, the same MACC team visited the Seberang Prai South district police headquarters' Special Branch department," the source said, in which the team picked up the rest of the policemen involved.
In a separate case, a traffic enforcement operation in its "own house" by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, with assistance from the Federal Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Department, turned out some surprising cases.
The operation at Bukit Aman headquarters saw 16 policemen given traffic summonses for offences such as expired road tax, failure to show driving licence and modified vehicle registration plate.
The operation also saw a scrutiny on the work ethics of its own personnel with 115 policemen reprimanded for coming in late to work.
