Tee Siew Kong to contest for MCA deputy president

JOHOR BARU: Former state executive councilor Datuk Tee Siew Kiong believes he can secure enough support from the majority of MCA members to vie for the deputy president's post.
The 54-year-old MCA veteran however declined to reveal who would be his running mate for the post of president.
Tee, who is also the deputy chief of the Johor MCA Liaison Committee, said the party must be rebuilt to be a formidable force once more. He said his 35 years of experience in politics makes him a suitable candidate for the post.
Tee was previously the political secretary of former Health Minister Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek.
Widely seen as part of Chua's faction in the party, he kept mum on whether Chua would make a comeback.
He was speaking during a party luncheon today which was also attended by Kluang MCA division chief Gan Ping Sieu, who is challenging Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong for the post of party president.
Wee is currently MCA deputy president while MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he would step down following the component party's poor showing in GE14.
Gan said MCA needs a new team to reform the party, and stressed that being moderate is the roadmap to rebuild the party.
The luncheon was attended by 21 out of 26 division leaders in the state.
Gan also said MCA should end its relationship with Barisan Nasional (BN) and not adopt a wait and see attitude. He believes MCA should leave the coalition before BN makes a permanent pact with PAS.
Party elections have been scheduled for early November.
