Two suspects arrested for killing pregnant cat at laundry

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested two of three suspects sought in connection with the killing of a pregnant cat at a laundromat in Taman Gombak Ria on Tuesday.
Gombak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Samsor Maarof said the suspects were arrested earlier this morning by the Gombak District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division according to reports by Harian Metro.
The Gombak magistrate court has granted a four-day remand from today, on the suspects.
He added that both suspects aged 26 and 40, were arrested in Gombak and the police are still hunting for the remaining suspect.
Yesterday, police revealed pictures of the three suspects wanted in connection with the probe under Section 428 of the Penal Code for maiming or killing an animal.
Under the section, those convicted can be fined and imprisoned for up to three years.
In the incident, the suspects are alleged to have killed the cat by putting it in a running clothes dryer at the laundrette.
In video footage captured by the laundrette's closed-circuit camera (CCTV), one of the two men was seen picking up the cat from the ground and placing it in the dryer before closing the door.
Moments later he drops a coin into the machine and starts it up before leaving the place with his accomplice.
The cat was later found dead in the dryer at 10.30am on Tuesday by other customers.
The incident was then reported to the authorities by an animal rights group.
It is believed that the men had earlier gone to the laundrette to use the facilities.
The footage which went viral on social media earned the wrath of netizens who urged the police to trace the culprits and bring them to book.
