KUALA LUMPUR: There are many within Umno who feel Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak should take responsibility for the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) crisis, although there are a few who have come in defence of the former premier, Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pix) said.
The Umno vice-president said the party's shocking defeat in the 14th General Election (GE14) was an anomaly that Umno had to pay for being presidential-centric instead of prioritising the party and the institution.
He however claimed that the party has learnt from its past mistakes and would move on.
"It must be reminded that in Umno, not all are of the belief that former Umno president Najib was right. Many in Umno wants him to be responsible for 1MDB.
"We are not 'yes men'. We have our own style in managing internal issues. What happened in GE14 was an isolated case that saw Umno paying a huge price for choosing to prioritise the president.
"We do not regret anything. But Umno understand this huge lesson, and will not repeat it again," he said in a statement last night.
