Wan Azizah: Kelantan child marriage case comes under state regulation

SEPANG: It is not within the federal government's jurisdiction to take action against the recent child marriage case involving a 15-year-old bride, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pix) claimed.
The Deputy Prime Minister said this was because the couple's marriage was registered under the Syariah court in Kelantan, and as such, the case comes under the state regulations.
"We have laws to say that if they break them, then they will have to pay some fine.
"But they were married under the Syariah Court. So you have to also abide by it because it is also state regulations," she told reporters after launching AirAsia's Taska Krista@RedQ child care centre at AirAsia's headquarters, here, today.
