Court sets RM3.5m as bail for Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has been granted bail amounting to RM3.5 million after claiming trial to 21 counts of money laundering and a separate four counts of abuse of power over the transfer of RM2.6 billion into his personal accounts in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.
Sessions judge Justice Azura Alwi set the bail amount with two sureties.
Earlier, Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram who is leading the prosecution asked the judge to set RM5 million as the amount.
Lead defence Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah, however, had asked for a sum of RM500,000 and for the case to be transferred to the High court.
The judge allowed for RM1 million bail to be paid tomorrow (Friday) and the rest to be paid off by Sept 28.
