Grace period for Perak unregistered tahfiz school closures

IPOH: Tahfiz and religious schools in the state will be given a grace period to register with the State Islamic Religious Department to ensure better management and control, said Perak Religious and Islamic Education Committee chairman Asmuni Awi.
He said no time frame has been fixed for the registration, but added that those who do not register, will not be recognised as religious schools.
"No time frame has been provided for the registration, but we hope the management of such institutions will adhere to the rules and regulations for such structures.
"They have to register, otherwise the premises will not be recognised ... I am giving leeway for them to register and adhere to the conditions set by the department," he told reporters here today.
He was commenting on the statement by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad that Kuala Lumpur City Hall will close down all unregistered tahfiz schools.
"However, Perak will not follow the action taken by City Hall until the grace period is over. I will discuss with the State Islamic Religious Department to come up with a time frame, as safety aspects is of the utmost important.
"Once the period is over there is a possibility that similar action will be instituted in Perak, so far no untoward incidents have occurred in these schools," he added.
Asmuni said to date there are many unregistered tahfiz centres in the state.
